Literature Text

Colour of the future, present and past
The passion, the joy, the anger, the end
The many marks left on us from times past

The blood that has been spilled, poppies blooming
The lips of my lover, love and hatred
Colour of open flesh, all consuming

The long everlasting sunset, *momento mori
The bright, cared-for colour of remembrance
The still loved colour that tells a story

The colour that reveals a life's essence
The colour will tell that story again
The colour celebrating remembrance

Known throughout the world, seen as a symbol
Used to remember forgotten people

* Momento mori: an object that makes one think about the notion of death. It literally means in Latin; "Remember that you will die"
This Sonnet was an assignment for my 2nd English course at a college.

I tried to be creative by repeating the word "colour" often (6x) and never using the word "red" other than the title.

The words are all meant to be typed in a dark and rich red to not only hint the colour this sonnet refers to but also to make it represent blood.
